The Avaricious Artist

Calvin was an artist. Before he would ever start a drawing or painting he always insisted upon being paid first, and on top of that, his fees were very high. He was known as the “Avaricious Artist”.

A woman once visited him and wanted to get a painting done from him. “How much are you willing to pay?” inquired Calvin.

“Whatever you charge,” the woman said, “but I want you to do the work in front of me.”

So, on a pre-decided day, the woman came to him with a lavish feast. Calvin with his fine brush and smooth touches did the painting. When it got completed he asked her for the highest sum of his time.
He received the payment as promised. The woman went back happily but when she returned home she complained about him saying, “All this artist wants is money. His paintings are fine but his mind is so dirty; he has given himself totally to the greed of gold coins. I wish he learns some lesson about this otherwise he’ll end up nowhere. All the people in the town know that, though his paintings are spectacular, still due to his being avaricious, his value in this society is nothing.”

But again she wanted another painting for her living room so again went back to the “Avaricious Artist” and said, “I liked the last one. I want to get another painted. How much and when?”

“How much can you pay me for this one?” asked Calvin.

“Oh, don’t worry about that, just name it, any amount.” Answered the woman.

Calvin again named a fancy price, a price that he never thought she could pay, a price that none of his fellow painters would demand. Nevertheless, he painted the work, took the consideration and went away.

It was learned later that Calvin had these reasons for demanding such huge amounts:

A ravaging famine was a frequent visitor to his province. The rich wouldn’t help poor, so Calvin had a secret warehouse where he kept the drums filled with grain for the poor.

From his village to the highway the road was broken and the streetlights were damaged so abductions and theft were consistently occurring. He wanted to build that road and provide for good streetlights there.

His last wish was to feed as many people as he can on the day his master; his teacher who taught him this art died.

After completing all of his wishes, he left for the search of God, became a saint and never touched his brushes again.

A Man & A Lion

A Man and a Lion were discussing generally about the relative strengths of men and lions. Both believed their races to be stronger than that of their counterpart. The Man contended that he and his fellow beings were stronger than lions by reason of the greater intelligence possessed by the humans.
“Come now with me,” said the Man, “And I will soon prove that I am right.”

So he took the Lion with him into the public garden area and showed him a marvelous statue of Hercules overpowering the Lion and tearing his mouth into two pieces.

“That is all very well,” said the Lion, “but proves nothing, for it was a man who made this statue after all.”

Moral of the story: We can easily dress up things in whichever way we wish to. So better get in the shoes of the other person and then judge, then come to any conclusions.

The MilkMaid

Jesse the Milkmaid was going to market carrying her milk in a large bucket on her head. As she went along she started calculating in mind what all she could do with the milk that she had.

“I’ll buy some fowls from Farmer Bob,” she said, “and obviously they will lay eggs every morning, what if I sell those eggs to the parson’s wife? With the money from that sale I think I should buy myself a new sexy frock and a chip hat; and oh! All the young men in the market will be eager to come up to me and ask me for a date! Wouldn’t that be super fun? And… Betty! Well, she’ll be utterly jealous of me; but I don’t care. I shall just look at her and then toss my head like this.”
As she spoke she tossed her head back, the bucket fell off her head and all the milk was split. So then she was left with no other choice but to go home empty-handed and tell her mother about what happened.

“Ah, my child,” said her mother.

Moral of the story: Don’t ever get your eyes off your current task in the pursuit of daydreaming! Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

Why People Give Up So Easily?

The moment we come across a new project at work or any other responsible job is assigned to us, we feel enthused with the fact that it will make our life interesting, challenging and will motivate us to bring on our A-game to the table.
Some of us, gradually, feel the drudgery and all the intoxicating fire in the belly which was alive in the initial days starts wearing out. Odds are that each one of us has been in the shoes of that ‘some of us’ and have experienced the same.
With near to zero motivation, about to die interest and merely surviving confidence in the project/work assigned to us, we give it up. If the project has some direct connection with the daily bread and butter, then only we dare to complete it.
So, what’s the real factor behind such mentality? Why does this ever happen? Is there any solution for this?
Below I’ve listed out some of the very crucial reasons which will surely help you in knowing the reasons that why do we give up and to own the legendary seed dormant inside of you and be out there showcasing your WOW level genius to the world.

Here we go. . .
1.       We Magnify Challenges Too Much and Too Often.

After setting up the desired goal, we immediately start working towards its attainment. The gorgeous path of success then starts posing the ever-so-beautiful challenges in front of us, which we look upon as threats to our comfort zones, instead as an opportunity to seize.

This happens solely because of the fact that we start magnifying our challenges/problems/struggles too much and too often. All the while, when this “Degree of Doubt” is far bigger than the degree of self-belief, which ultimately forces us to give up.

This phenomenon takes birth again when we start thinking about what others might say/ think. Hence, when we start spending more time with the “Degree of Doubt” we happen to forget to grow our self-belief and thus commit the crime of self- sabotage.

We not only deny ourselves from the confidence of after-completion success but also from the glorious future and marvelous opportunities ahead of it.

2.       We Forget The Art of Perseverance.

The Masters are cut from different cloth?  à  NO!
They’ve got some superpower to focus for long grueling hours?  à NO!
That’s what makes them great? à YES!!!

Abe Lincoln, Edison, Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, Gates, Musk, You, Me, Everyone. We all have same physical features. Difference starts showing its signs when we look deeper and find out that it’s nothing but the art of persevering which aptly defines why someone is at a higher point today. (This is not judgment, just personal observation.) :)

Why we give up is because we presume ourselves to be so tiny in front of the huge goals we set for ourselves. We should breakdown the goals into smaller yet measurable milestones for the progress gets measured and course corrections could be made accordingly. [BONUS POINT : Add a reward for each milestone achieved. This will surely ease up your stress nerves.]

3.       The Grass Always Seems Greener On The Other Side.

When troubles give us their first peek-a-boo, we get jittery and look sideways, staring at the competition working hard and this discourages even more.

Now, you the reader, would you please tell me the name of one company which laid its 10 year action plan and worked according to that same plan and got its results? Well, chances are NONE!

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next.Delicious Ambiguity.” GILDA RADNER

Looking into the competitor’s strategy is okay for business POV, but yes, copying them is a sin.

In a nutshell, run your own race.

4.       Holding On To “Failure Tag” for too long.

This is something that kills the productivity and enthusiasm in most. We fail at some point and someone says, “You’re a failure.” So, instead of taking it proactively we react to it and keep rewinding playing the same roll again and again in our minds. Next whenever you hear that line, BANG comes the same reel again.

Stop this activity. You’re definitely NOT what people judge you as.

5.       We Want Outcome More Than The Willingness To Put In The Effort To Learn Skills Or Put In Those Study Years .

Instant noodles. Order and self serve joints. Technology has surely been a nitrous to our slow world but it has made us humans greedy and desperate to want things ASAP.  We aren’t much ready to put in those hard study years to go through the subject, acquire a lot of specialized knowledge and then brainstorm the market with our concepts, vision and actions. We want things now, this instant. And nothing makes matters worse than this.

6.       The Magic Ingredient is Missing in Most of Us.

SELF BELIEF
Main course is served.
Previously what you had were just the starters my love. ;)

The most overused but brutally true cliché is that people don’t believe in themselves to such gargantuan degrees in order to overshadow their “Degree of Doubt.”

We all have to go through our own set of challenging and arduous goals. Different goals call for different paths which obviously contain a variety of tough challenges, but they’re not the points to give up.

Imagine you’re driving in the night. Can you see the destination point from where you’re standing? NO. Then why do you expect life to not give you any hardships?

Start the car. Switch on the lights. Trust the process. As you move the light also moves with you. So the key is to keep moving. Have faith in yourself and in God (Infinite Intelligence) up there.

Challenges are meant to make us climb the summit again and again. I think not giving in is also an art to learn. ;)

Remember, those who persevere are winners. It’s the hard, grueling, weary climb that makes the experience of standing on the mountain top beautiful and worthwhile.
HUG YOUR GOALS
. Never let them go. After all, what are we without them, just a handful of meaningless dirt. :)

I hope my ideas have served you with their fullest of potential.

The 10 Brain Tattoos of Legends : Robin Sharma

The following 10 brain tattoos are originally created by Robin Sharma. I have just added below each point that why I loved that particular quote. Hope you like them too. :)

1.    You can be a victim or a titan. You can’t be both.

We all get to make our own choices every single second of our lives. At this very moment, some of us might be stressed due to an unavoidable circumstance while someone going through the same struggle might be at peace with all the turbulence around her because she knows someday everything will fit in. Titans trust the process while the victim hates it.

2.    Your excuses are nothing more than the lies your fears have sold you.

By this quote, Robin Sharma perfectly delivers a lot of wisdom in just one simple line. Well, that’s just his awesome way! Many of us give ourselves excuses that our genius self doesn’t deserve. And then we blame someone else for it. It’s just that we know that our fears are the primary sources of the liberation of our bravest selves; still we keep on clinging to them all lifelong. Please shed them up!

3.    An addiction to distraction is the end of your creative production.

The moment we shift our focus from learning to laziness, we kill the dream we have. All of us get distracted a lot by the never-ending distractions of the world. Only a few of us, rarely 5-10%, are able to be successful. The quote above by Robin Sharma is the reason why this happens. No magic here. Pure dedication.

4.    A job is only a job if you choose to see it as a job.

More than half of the people we see in our society complain about their work. We blame our work for it being so boring and lack of energy. For one week, look at your work as if it is something that will change the world. Look at your simple “boring” job as something that makes this world happy and makes you feel that you are contributing to something bigger than you think. Robin Sharma puts this so well in his quote above that you should see your job as a craft, a medium through which you could serve the humanity. Look from Robin’s viewpoint. You’ll never shift to old thinking.

5.    Every visionary was first ridiculed before she was revered.

Well, this one’s a no brainer. We all have heard about so many great leaders who walked this planet Earth who were first ridiculed of their idea. They were called crazy. But then they were revered when their legendary selves shone through the dark times. Examples are Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Kiran Bedi, Picasso etc. If you do feel like people don’t believe in you and still you are continuing to chase your dreams, then my dear friend... You are one of them ;)

6.    Dream BIG. Start small. Begin today.

Many of us procrastinate a lot. We keep on planning and planning, thinking and thinking about the ways to achieve our goals. But in doing so, we don’t realize that planning a lot is taking up too much of our time! Sometimes, you shouldn’t keep on planning, just go for it! Start small. Start now. Begin today.

7.    The job of a leader is to grow more leaders. So leave people behind better than you found them.

We all don’t know for how long we have our stay on this planet. We all are in some way or the other dependent on another person. So while we stay here, why not make this ride a fun ride for others by lifting up the gloomy ones, by respecting the poor ones, by consoling the crying ones and by helping the needy ones? Grow people. Invest your time and energy in them.

8.    Adversity is nothing more than opportunity clothed in disguise.

All adversities bear the fruit of success. Just like a butterfly has to struggle through the shell to fly freely, we all have to fight through our share of struggles to fly in the world with freedom and bravery. No pain no gain.

9.    Life is short. Enjoy the process.

Really we never know when our last moment is. So why not spend each day loving, caring and spreading faith and hope all over? In the end we all have to turn into dust. Don’t we?

10.  Today is an awesome day to reach for your best.

Period. :)

Chase What You Love

Today's article is a decent reminder of your inner genius and a wake-up call to the sleeping ones because there is no better time but today to chase down your love and passion.

With “love”, here, I refer to your own passion and the art you want to release in the world.

With love, here, I refer to that work for which you are up till late nights which never lets you sleep.

With love, here, I mean that love of your life for which you are ready to put in every last drop of your sweat and blood.

With love, here, I mean that particular single goal which reigns supreme in your mind for that is your surest path to success.

With love, here, I mean that mission of your life for the completion of which you wake up every day with fire to fight against all naysayers and critics and do what means the most to you.

Ladies and gentlemen, I refer, here, "love" to the craft you are pursuing right now.

Many folks from "the lot" of mediocrity wonder what drives a successful man when they look at them.

The answer is simple - they are following their passion.

So while being stuck in the feeling of jealousy, they criticize and condemn those massive leaders for who they are and try to find their weaknesses.

My this article is just a simple reminder for you to keep on doing what you are doing, because if you won't pursue what you want to or if you don't keep on doing what you're good at, then you surely will steal the golden opportunity from the world to see how artistic your inner self is; you'll never be able to make the hidden genius in you, see the light of the day.

Just imagine the extent to which you'll leave the world depriving to get a glimpse of the genius in you.

Now if, like many people, you have the thought in mind that peace of mind is a by-product of money, then my dear friend, you are utterly mistaken.

Following the craft which according to your own mental beliefs will get you your dreams - that is the single most thing that will give you peace of mind. Money surely will accompany you soon on this path, but it always remains a by-product for such a person who is focused on creating nothing but world class.

As I have always written in my earlier articles, there is nothing hurting than future regrets not acted upon in time. I myself have skipped a few beautiful moments earlier in my life, where I could have improved my self-esteem, which I now regret. Lesson learned - moved on.

Might be this article would seem to you like a shorter one than usual, but let me wrap it up quickly with some more brainstorming ideas that why you should follow your passions.

The next time you attend a party or go to the office or you sit with a bunch of friends, just ask them these following questions:-

1) Hey! How's your day going?
2) So, what's the best part of your job which you absolutely love to do?
3) Who's your idol in your workplace to whom you look up to for every source of inspiration?
4) Have you ever felt like you are in a wrong place (to work) than now?

I am deeply sad to tell you that not many would answer joyously with gleaming passion on their faces.

You know why so?

Because not many of us are following our passions.

And, I personally feel that THIS is the very reason why you should follow your passion.

I want you to be the light in the dark for those lagging behind. I urge you to be the leader of such men and women who would view you as a source of inspiration and vigor. Be so good in your craft that your name alone lights up, the lagging ones, from inside and makes their stomachs burn with the fire of producing giant successful results. That is the class of leaders the world lacks right now.

Please own your Heroic-ship today!

As I said earlier, there is no better time than NOW.

Follow your passions. Make the difference. Live for something big. Be an inspiration.

There are only a few of us who are owning their games of life and playing with their crafts to be the heavyweight kings of their respective endeavors.

Are you among them?

Till next time.

7 Influential Magic Wands to Transform Your Life !

You are not the only one who wishes that if we humans had a magic wand to just whoosh away all our worries and tensions. I used to think this way as well. Every time I met any tough times, my mind used to get down and my heart used to so deeply wish if I had a magic wand to turn breakdowns into breakthroughs. All of the wishes were in vain when I found no such magic wand to eliminate stressful times and challenging life experiences from my life.

When I was about to give up completely and accept my fate as being a loser all my life, something shook from the inside of me that changed me and my thinking pattern for life.

A fascinating fact here is that we do have a magic wand to change our circumstances and the reactions. Dr. Joseph Murphy has put it so well that “there are basically two elements on which nature works, which are action and reaction. The action is mostly objective i.e. it comes from outside the human body whereas the reaction is what comes from within us i.e. it is objective."

And the magic wand that I want to offer you here is your ability to react. We all are offered in life some gorgeous challenges day in and day out, but all really boils down to the fact that if we are able to maintain the poise and calmness of our mind or not. This can only be done when we have full control over our ability to react to the outer circumstances.

We need to be like a blooming lotus amidst the dirt of negativity in the world. Every second a new negativity is thrown towards us. The choice really depends on us that if we want to own these negativities or not.
This reminds me of a story of Buddha. I would like to share that with you :-

Once there was a man whose wife was inspired by the greatness and humbleness of Buddha. Earlier he didn't have a problem with that, but later that turned out in the form of jealousy. So one day he decided to go to meet Buddha and abuse him for hypnotizing his wife's mind. The man abused Buddha and spit out all his anger on him. When he stopped, Buddha smiled and said to that man “If some guests cone to your house, you offer them food and they leave without even touching a grain of it. To whom does that food belong?”  The man said, “To me obviously”. Buddha smiled and said, “In the same way, I don't take any of your abusive words, they all still belong to you only.” The man left, impressed with the true bigness of Buddha's wisdom.

I believe that is the bigness we all must possess to let all the negativity sail by us without getting wet from it. I understand it is very difficult to possess such a power. But let me astonish you with a fact that this power resides within you. You don't need to possess it, you already have it. The only thing required is to identify and then harness it to such an extent that it dominates your well being. Am not going to inspire you to shed all your worldly possessions and lifestyle and go and live in the nirvana, but am sharing with you some tactics to balance your outer and inner life. A few points on how you can harness this power are as follows:-

1)   Whenever you feel like spitting your anger out on someone just remember that how would you feel if you were on the other side ?

2)    The work you are doing, is it in accordance with your values and ethics ? If not then such a work will be your biggest weakness, remove it as early as you can.

3)    Do you feel as a contributing member in the service of humanity?

The service of humanity gives the indefinite power which makes one realize that life is meant to serve others as well. And believe me, nothing gives you much power than this.

4)   Do you greet people with your most genuine smile ?

5)   All of us are not here that long and we don't want to hurt anyone on the path of life. Do we ?

6)    Forgive others sooner than they forgive you.
This habit of forgiving someone sooner than they forgive you is a very powerful tool. It has helped me a lot. If someone ever hurts you, remind yourself that from within, we all are same. Might be the other person has had a bad day. Might be he had a fight with his wife this morning. Might be his loan payment is due.

When you apply this principle to practical life, you'll see that people will get inspired by your greatness and they will always flock to you with boundless care and love.

7)    Now last but by no means the least, give yourself positive affirmations every day, each moment. Such affirmations need to be felt while speaking and you have to believe that you are going to achieve that level of calmness. Some affirmations I suggest are :-

i)       I am great!
ii)    I represent calmness and tranquility.
iii)  I will achieve all my dreams and I have full faith in my abilities.
iv)  I have God on my side.
v)     I am humble and kind.

So you see, we all have these 6 magic wands to revolutionize our lives. Apply them to your current problem(s) and see this magical power work for you. It is and was always, ready to serve you. Now as you have identified it, uncover it ASAP.

Till next time.

When Inequality Hurts

We all are humans. And with being humans, comes the need to be heard, to be respected and to be treated equally. Still, this world will not stop from forcing us into its abyss where inequality resides. Today we're going to talk about inequality.

Inequality is a situation where we feel that we're being undervalued as compared to our peers. Of course, it'll hurt you when the guy sitting next to you works less than you and still takes the same number of dollars to home as you. Of course, it'll hurt you if the guy who never studied properly, got his marks in the 90s in finals whereas you got what you couldn't even imagine! Of course, it will hurt you if your boss prefers another intern because she is sexier than you whereas you have much better qualifications and the set of skills. Different people residing in different countries, having different mindsets and going through different circumstances, but the same issue: Inequality.

Inequality isn't that much popular in these times as it used to be during the times of Nelson Mandela. But yes, it is there in the society. So, how to look at it?

We all feel uncared, insecure and doubtful of our own capabilities when such incidents happen with us. What I suggest you to do in such situations is; focus on what can be done. Not on what can't be done. If you can't change anything why worry? If you can change it, then also why worry?

When you focus on the ill-treatment given to you by your boss or when you focus on the guy who got more marks than you, at that time, you're just giving yourself the signals that you're not worth the prize. At that time, you, yourself are giving away your willpower to be dominated subconsciously by the other person. And that does make you weak! At that time you are just stuck in the scarcity mindset.

The world isn't over here. The world for you begins then, the very moment you experience inequality in some way or the other, because every problem is an opportunity in disguise. When you focus on seeing the inequality as the best time to move on from your current job, you turn the coin and see another side.... Guess what it's called... It's called as abundance mindset.

. I think the solution settles down to the fact that, if you want to see the glass as half empty or half full, it’s completely your choice.

Be on the lookout for another blog post that will be here soon, giving you simple tactics and ways to shift from scarcity to abundance mindset.

Hope I’ve been of service to you :)

Till next time.

50 Traits of a Confident Person

There have been many assumptions that what does a confident person look like ? Some say it is the money they make, some say it is the knowledge they hold in their heads and others say it is the attitude of never giving up that defines them as “confident”. The answer to all of such guesses lies in the fact that none of them fit the bill by themselves alone. Today we can hardly notice a true human being who has ever loved others deeply or cared for the needy.

So, here is a list about 50 traits that every good human being must possess to be a contributing and a confident person living in this era. This list is originally prepared by Nick Notas. (Link given at the end of this article)

I know we all lack in some areas, but
progress first starts within than without. So please look into them as both, a testing material and a learning material, so that you could make your internal constructions rock solid, that no outer force could break you. So, let’s get right into it.

A Confident person. . .

Knows to apologize when he’s wrong
Speaks the truth and doesn’t go back on his word
Isn’t worried about his  past history,  has clear razor sharp focus on the future
Doesn’t need to put people down to make himself feel better
Gives back to others because he genuinely wants to
Is assertive and actively goes after what he wants in life
Knows how to be kind and treat everyone equally
Takes responsibility for his actions and doesn’t blame others
Approaches a challenge with positive mindset even when he’s nervous
Has many interests and is passionate about them
Makes the team he works in feel worthy
Takes the initiative whenever sees an opportunity
Leads with charisma and self-assurance
Doesn’t take advantage or prey on those weaker than him
Stands up for his values and what he believes in
Has his emotions under control and keeps his cool even in the most tensed situations
Embraces his negative points and works hard to improvise on them
Smiles often and brightens other people’s day
Speaks slowly, clearly, and with purpose
Gets excited to meet new people and personalities
Communicates with passion in voice and doesn’t shut down
Expresses his feelings openly instead of making passive-aggressive comments
Isn’t afraid to disagree but doesn’t have to start an argument
Has a proactive outlook on life and radiates positive energy
Enjoys going on adventures and trying new things
Doesn’t have to brag or boast to feel important
Gives strong eye contact when talking
Avoids negative self-talk and doesn’t tear himself down
Makes the tough decisions when he has to
Is comfortable and non-judgemental in times when people oppose him
Sees failure as an opportunity to learn and grow from
Allows others to save face when they slip up
He respects and considers the opinions of others but doesn’t seek their approval
Tries to prevent unnecessary drama and fights in his relationships
Isn’t selfish and shares what he has with others
Creates charisma and positive aura wherever he goes
Avoids jumping to conclusions and making unwarranted assumptions
Is open-minded about new ideas and gives them a fair chance
Stands tall, with his shoulders relaxed, and head held high
Enjoys a good challenge and the process to overcome it
Has a great sense of humor and knows how to make people laugh
Always protects those closest to him
Expands his comfort zone on a regular basis
Is a skilled conversationalist, knows how to communicate keeping the ends in mind.
Encourages others to succeed and is excited for their accomplishments
Doesn’t guilt trip or manipulate others to get what he wants
Is polite, has manners, and understands social etiquette
Tries to look his best because he values himself
Accepts criticism and doesn’t take things personally
Is happy with himself and doesn’t hide who he really is

I just sincerely hope that these ideas would serve you in the best possible ways.

And, the main point to be noted here is that these are not my points. I haven’t made them up. My friend Nick Notas ( a well known dating expert and coach) has made them up. I couldn’t change the magic and simplicity his words are reflecting. That’s why posted them as it is for all of you. The link to his original piece is http://www.nicknotas.com/blog/50-traits-of-a-confident-man/
